Free transfer exit looming as experienced defender prepares to leave Rangers F.C.

Rangers F.C. are preparing for a significant squad overhaul in Danny Röhl’s first summer transfer window at Ibrox, with several departures expected.

Rangers building momentum in title race

Röhl has credited his side’s climb up the table to months of steady progress as they push towards a dramatic end to the Scottish Premiership season. When he replaced Russell Martin in October, Rangers were trailing Celtic F.C. by eight points and sat 13 behind Heart of Midlothian F.C..

Since then, they’ve surged into second place and now sit just one point behind the Edinburgh side, giving themselves a real shot at a title that once looked out of reach.

With five matches remaining, Röhl emphasised that the turnaround is the result of long-term development rather than short-term gains. He also highlighted the team’s growing tactical flexibility and stressed that mindset and emotion will be key in the run-in.

Attention now turns to a crucial clash with Motherwell F.C. at Ibrox. Despite Motherwell’s recent dip in form, Röhl expects a challenging encounter, noting their possession-based style and the importance of belief—particularly in pressing situations.

defender departures on the horizon

While Röhl has impressed with the squad he inherited, changes are expected once the season concludes as he looks to shape the team in his own image.

Among those set to depart is Ben Davies, whose contract expires this summer. The former Preston North End F.C. and Liverpool F.C. defender spent the campaign on loan at Oxford United F.C. and is not expected to feature in Röhl’s plans moving forward.

Davies made 58 appearances for Rangers during his time at the club, proving a reliable option at the back. However, reports suggest he will be allowed to leave on a free transfer.

Fellow loanee Leon King is also expected to move on, as Rangers begin reshaping their squad ahead of next season.
