John Hartson expresses uncertainty over Dermot Desmond’s stance on Roberto Martinez at Celtic
John Hartson has questioned whether Dermot Desmond would be willing to provide the financial backing required to bring a manager of Roberto Martínez’s calibre to Celtic F.C..
Speaking alongside Frank McAvennie, Hartson stressed that significant investment will be needed this summer, especially with Celtic at risk of losing the Premiership title.
He warned that without major spending, even a top-level manager would struggle to improve the current squad.

Hartson argued that any high-profile appointment like Martínez would demand a substantial transfer budget, suggesting the Portuguese national team boss may be out of reach if the club are unwilling to spend heavily.
Both Hartson and McAvennie expressed concerns that Celtic could fall further behind unless a major rebuild is backed financially, with the former striker insisting failure to invest now could cost the club another title next season.
