Hidden reason why England players did not wear Jersey with their names on the back of their shirts vs Belgium match
Because of this, English players will not have their names on the back of their shirts for the second time in two years.
England plays Belgium at Wembley on Tuesday. The FA has decided that the Three Lions will play the second half of the game without their names on the back of their shirts. As a tribute to the Alzheimer’s Society, one of the FA’s charity partners, the match will be called the “Alzheimer’s Society International.” This is done to help raise knowledge and funds for dementia research.
The plan is for the England team to give these one-of-a-kind shirts, which will then be auctioned off to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society research. Most of the money will go to research into how to find the disease earlier.
The first game with the nameless shirts was at Wembley Stadium in 2022, and it was between England and Switzerland. It was the first Alzheimer’s Society International.
When England plays Belgium again, the shirts will be worn again as a way to make the point that football should be memorable. Another reason is that the England men’s team wants to bring attention to the disease and do something about it. In the last two years, it has become the top cause of death in the country.
Today is the second time in the last week that England shirts have been all over the news. Fans and politicians alike have paid a lot of attention to the Three Lions’ controversial St. George’s flag, which is on the back of the shirt’s neck. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that messing with England’s national flag was wrong, and opposition leader Keir Starmer asked Nike to “reconsider” their controversial choice.
Nike called the new flag, which has colors of red, purple, and blue, a “playful update” to the ones that were originally red. The sports brand said in a statement, “Together with the FA, the goal was to honor the heroes of 1966 and what they did.” The trim on the cuffs is based on the training clothes that England’s heroes from 1966 wore. It is a gradient of blues and reds that ends in purple. On the back of the collar in the same colors, there is a drawing of the flag.
The FA said they had no plans to return the controversial kit, even though people all over the country were upset about it. They said it wasn’t the first time England’s match shirts had been made in different colors. But they did say that they knew what the flag meant to England fans and made sure that it could be seen during England’s game against Brazil.
