Findlay Curtis set for Rangers loan exit in January asfirst-team opportunities become limited

Findlay Curtis could be heading out of Rangers on another loan spell when the January transfer window opens if hiscurrent lack of first-team opportunities continues.

Sources have told Football Insider that the 20-year-old winger is prepared to seek a temporary move away from Ibrox inthe new year if he cannot force his way back into Derek McInnes’ plans.

Curtis emerged as a serious first-team option ahead of the current campaign following an impressive loan spell atKilmarnock last season.

The Scotland international hopeful made 14 appearances for the Rugby Park side during the second half of the previouscampaign, contributing six goals and assists as they battled to preserve their Scottish Premiership status.

His performances earned him opportunities at Rangers, and he featured regularly during the opening weeks of the season.

However, his involvement has dropped significantly since the last international break, leaving his long-term position inMcInnes’ squad uncertain.

As revealed on the latest edition of the Football Insider Transfer Insider podcast, Curtis could look for another loan moveif his situation does not improve before January.

His most recent league start came against Motherwell on 5 September, with Minsu Kim now seemingly ahead of him inthe battle for the right-wing position.

Curtis considering another loan move

Despite making 16 appearances for Rangers this season, Curtis is yet to register a goal or assist.

He previously managed three goals and two assists across 21 appearances for the first team before his temporary switch toKilmarnock.

Regular football will be important for the youngster as he looks to maintain his progress and strengthen his position in theScotland squad.

Other Premiership clubs could also be interested in securing his services if Rangers make him available for loan duringthe winter window.

Discussing the situation on the Transfer Insider podcast, the reporter said:

“He enjoyed a very good loan last year at Kilmarnock, which helped him break into the Scotland squad.

“The issue for Curtis right now is that Rangers have been performing well with a settled side. I think it’s one that probablyRangers will look at and review closer to the January window if he’s not getting many opportunities.”

McInnes has enjoyed a positive spell with Rangers, who have scored in each of their last 10 matches across allcompetitions while extending their unbeaten run.

That consistency has made it difficult for fringe players to force their way into the starting eleven, with Curtis amongthose affected.

Rangers youngster still impressing despite limited opportunities

Although his lack of goals and assists this season is a concern, Curtis’ underlying numbers suggest he continues to offerconsiderable attacking potential.

His statistics compare favourably with other wingers and attacking midfielders in the Scottish Premiership.

The 20-year-old ranks in the 90th percentile for chances created, averaging 2.73 per 90 minutes, while his average of 0.84big chances created places him in the 92nd percentile.

He also sits in the 83rd percentile for successful crosses, recording 1.47 per 90 minutes.

His contribution is not limited to attacking creativity, either. Curtis ranks in the 90th percentile for duel success at 59.3 percent and the 81st percentile for fouls won, averaging 2.52 per 90 minutes.

Those figures indicate that he remains capable of making an impact, even if regular opportunities have been difficult tosecure.

Rangers will therefore have a decision to make as January approaches. Keeping Curtis provides McInnes with another attacking option, but another loan spell could offer the youngster the regular minutes needed to continue his development.
