Why Rangers vs St Johnstone Postponement Was a Crucial Concern Ahead of Ibrox Clash

Rangers will be determined to get back to winning ways when they welcome St Johnstone to Ibrox on Saturday.

Derek McInnes’ side were left frustrated after surrendering a lead to draw 2-2 with Dundee at Dens Park in their previous outing.

The result means Rangers remain four points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race, increasing the importance of collecting maximum points this weekend.

The visitors took advantage of a mistake from Dan Neil to find a late equaliser, denying Rangers the opportunity to close the gap at the top.

Attention has now turned towards Saturday’s meeting with St Johnstone, although concerns have emerged over whether the weather could threaten the fixture.

Will Rangers vs St Johnstone be postponed?

At this stage, a postponement appears unlikely, despite the approaching Storm Austen and the potential disruption it could bring to Scotland.

The storm is expected to affect southern England and Wales overnight on Thursday before moving towards the North Sea. Scotland is then forecast to experience the impact of a deep area of low pressure.

According to BBC Weather, strong winds could affect western Scotland, with gusts exceeding 70mph possible in some areas.

Travel disruption is also anticipated on 24 October, with restrictions potentially affecting bridges and other transport routes.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain covering Glasgow on Friday and Saturday.

The warning is expected to expire shortly before kick-off, although localised flooding remains a possibility in areas surrounding Ibrox.

While the conditions could create difficulties for supporters travelling to the match, the available forecast information does not suggest that postponement is inevitable.

Another difficult test awaits Rangers?

Fixtures against Dundee and St Johnstone might previously have been viewed as favourable opportunities for Rangers to collect points. However, both opponents are now competing towards the upper end of the Scottish Premiership table, making them potentially challenging assignments.

Rangers will nevertheless enter the contest as favourites, particularly with the advantage of playing in front of their home supporters at Ibrox.

McInnes must now decide how to respond to the disappointing draw at Dens Park, with his team selection likely to attract plenty of attention.

Kevin Kelsy was dropped for the Dundee encounter, while Badredine Bouanani enhanced his claims for a regular starting role with an impressive display capped by a spectacular goal.

That performance could put pressure on Djeidi Gassama to maintain his place in the starting line-up.

Minsu Kim also came off early at Dens Park after once again being moved into a central position, leaving McInnes with further decisions to consider ahead of Saturday’s match.

With wet weather potentially influencing the contest, Rangers may need to place greater emphasis on physicality and direct attacking play in the final third.

Ultimately, the priority for McInnes and his players will be securing all three points and avoiding another costly setback in the Premiership title race.
