Rangers Receive Positive Nicolas Raskin Update as Fresh Twist Emerges
Nicolas Raskin is prepared to remain with Rangers for the rest of the season as he looks to help Derek McInnes’ side mount a serious challenge for the Scottish Premiership title.
Sources have indicated that the Belgium international is currently happy to stay at Ibrox, provided Rangers continue to show they can compete for the league.
Rangers have no desire to lose one of their key midfielders during the January transfer window and are expected to resist any approaches for the 25-year-old.
However, the club’s stance could change next summer, with Rangers understood to be viewing that window as the most suitable opportunity to consider a sale.
Raskin’s current contract runs until the summer of 2028, but there is little expectation that he will extend his stay beyond the existing deal.
Raskin ready for another Rangers title push
The midfielder has been the subject of transfer speculation on several occasions since arriving at Rangers, with clubs from bigger European leagues reportedly monitoring his situation.
Raskin has previously admitted that he was open to leaving Ibrox during the summer, but his performances have not suggested that the uncertainty surrounding his future has affected him.
The former Standard Liege player remains an important part of McInnes’ plans and registered 16 goal contributions across all competitions last season.
With Rangers now enjoying an impressive run of form, Raskin appears willing to put his future to one side and focus on the immediate objective.
The midfielder is expected to remain at Ibrox through the remainder of the campaign and give the club one more opportunity to challenge for the Premiership title before potentially considering a move elsewhere.
Rangers are effectively planning for the possibility of his departure rather than expecting him to sign a new contract.
Rangers continue to assess Connor Barron situation
Raskin’s future is not the only midfield issue Rangers could have to address during the January window.
The club are also considering what to do with Connor Barron, who joined Middlesbrough on loan shortly before the summer transfer window closed.
The Scotland international has yet to make an appearance for his Championship loan side, leaving Rangers monitoring his situation closely.
Sources previously indicated that Rangers could recall Barron in January if his lack of first-team football continues.
However, a return to Ibrox would not necessarily mean he becomes part of McInnes’ plans for the remainder of the season. Rangers could instead look to arrange another loan move for the midfielder.
Barron, like Raskin, has a contract with Rangers until 2028, but his long-term prospects under McInnes remain uncertain unless his situation changes significantly.
For now, the focus is on Raskin remaining at Ibrox and helping Rangers maintain their title challenge, with the midfielder seemingly prepared to delay any major career decision until next summer.
