Portsmouth manager Mousinho voices frustration over FIFA decision ahead of international break

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has criticised FIFA’s decision to introduce a three-week international break so early in the season. The new schedule leaves Pompey with a 22-day gap between their Championship fixtures against Blackburn Rovers and Southampton, and Mousinho believes the extended interruption could disrupt his side’s momentum.

The Portsmouth boss feels football would benefit more from shorter international breaks spread throughout the season. He suggested moving one of the pre-Christmas windows to January or February instead, arguing that teams perform better when they can maintain a consistent rhythm of competitive matches.

Portsmouth currently sit 18th in the Championship with seven points from six games, while Southampton are ninth with 10 points from seven matches.
