Thelo Aasgaard leaves Rangers as details of Anderlecht deal emerge

Thelo Aasgaard has become the latest player to depart Rangers after the club confirmed his move to Anderlecht.

The Norway international will spend the upcoming season with the Belgian club on loan, although Anderlecht have the option to turn the temporary arrangement into a permanent transfer at the end of the campaign.

Aasgaard’s departure comes just 12 months after Rangers brought him in from Luton Town for a reported £3.5 million. Despite his relatively short stay at Ibrox, the midfielder is now heading for the exit, with details of the agreement beginning to emerge.

What will Rangers receive for Aasgaard?

Aasgaard’s position in the Rangers team had become less secure following a difficult opening to the campaign. His workload was also affected by his involvement with Norway during their lengthy World Cup run.

Rangers ultimately agreed to Anderlecht’s proposal late on Wednesday, with reports suggesting the initial loan will bring the Scottish club around £1 million.

Should Anderlecht decide to exercise their purchase option next summer, Rangers would reportedly receive another £4 million.

That would take the potential value of the deal to approximately £5 million, meaning Rangers could make around £1.5 million above the £3.5 million they initially paid for Aasgaard.

However, the potential return may leave some supporters questioning the decision, particularly after previous suggestions that the midfielder could command a fee of around £6 million.

For Rangers, the immediate priority will be to benefit from the loan arrangement while leaving the door open for a permanent sale at the end of the season.

Could Raskin still leave Rangers?

Nicolas Raskin remains another player whose future has attracted considerable speculation as the transfer window approaches its conclusion.

Besiktas previously saw a proposal for the Belgian midfielder rejected by Rangers, with that offer reportedly involving an initial loan followed by an option to buy.

The Turkish club subsequently returned with an improved proposal aimed at signing Raskin on a permanent basis. Rangers are understood to have rejected that approach as well.

Manager Derek McInnes has indicated that he expects Raskin to remain at Ibrox, despite the continued interest in the midfielder.

With the transfer window entering its final stages, however, Rangers could still see further movement. More departures remain possible, while the club may also look to complete additional incoming business before the deadline.
