Mika Baur has revealed the devastating mood inside the Celtic dressing room after their extraordinary Champions League collapse against LASK.

Celtic surrendered a 4-0 aggregate advantage in Austria, eventually losing 5-4 after extra time and suffering another painful exit from the competition.

Baur, who joined Celtic from Paderborn during the summer, started the second leg but was substituted with the score at 3-1 to LASK. Luke McCowan replaced him, leaving Baur to watch from the sidelines as the hosts completed their remarkable comeback.

The German midfielder said there was little conversation among the Celtic players after the final whistle, with everyone left to reflect on their individual performances.

“I think everybody should start by looking at himself,” Baur said. “Even me, every player needs to ask himself if he did everything right today, to be able to see what he has to do better.

“There’s not much going on, no one speaks. Everyone is with themselves. At the moment, it’s really quiet and really, really sad in the locker room.”

Despite only arriving at Celtic two weeks earlier, Baur admitted the defeat was particularly difficult to accept.

The 22-year-old has already experienced big matches during his time in Germany, but he described Celtic’s collapse in Linz as the toughest defeat of his young career so far.

Asked whether the LASK loss was indeed his most painful experience in football, Baur simply replied: “Yeah, it is.”
