Blackburn Striker Igor Tyjon Edges Closer to Arsenal Switch After Fee Agreement

Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Blackburn Rovers over a deal for highly rated striker Igor Tyjon, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Gunners have spent considerable time strengthening their senior squad during the summer, bringing in established names such as Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa and Christos Tzolis. However, their recruitment strategy also extends to identifying promising young players who could develop into first-team stars in the future.

Arsenal were previously interested in Leicester City prospect Jeremy Monga, only for Manchester City to win the race for his signature. They have also added 18-year-old defender Elijah Upson to their academy after his departure from Tottenham.

The north London club continue to view academy recruitment as an important part of their long-term plans, with clubs across the country competing aggressively for the best young talent.

Blackburn forward Tyjon has been one of Arsenal’s targets in recent months, although negotiations over compensation had become complicated.

Nixon has now reported that the two clubs have finally settled on a transfer package, meaning the matter should not have to proceed to a contract dispute tribunal.

Arsenal have reportedly improved their proposal to £1.5 million, with additional performance-related payments and a 25 per cent sell-on clause included in the agreement.

A significant part of the package is a £1 million bonus that will become payable once Tyjon makes his senior debut for Arsenal.

Blackburn had been determined to retain the young striker and rejected several approaches from Arsenal. Tyjon was also expected to attend a hearing as part of an attempt to have his existing contract terminated.

That dispute now appears to have been resolved, with Arsenal set to secure the youngster while Blackburn receive a compensation package that reflects the value they placed on one of their promising academy products.

The move represents another example of Arsenal investing in young talent with the aim of developing players who could potentially make an impact at senior level in the years ahead.
