Wrexham Plot Surprise Double Raid for Leeds Ace and Ex-Man United Man

Wrexham are reportedly preparing an ambitious double transfer swoop for Leeds United forward Lukas Nmecha and former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe as they continue to strengthen their squad.

Phil Parkinson’s team narrowly missed out on the Championship play-offs last season, but the club are determined to mount a stronger promotion challenge this time around. With Premier League football remaining the long-term dream, co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have focused on bringing in proven quality rather than repeating last summer’s high-volume recruitment strategy.

That approach has already delivered several major additions. Crystal Palace defender Danny Imray, Preston North End midfielder Ben Whiteman and Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson have all joined the Welsh club, with the three players reportedly costing around £16 million combined.

Wrexham now appear ready to pursue two more experienced additions in Nmecha and Tuanzebe, both of whom featured in the Premier League during the 2025/26 season.

Nmecha, who came through Manchester City’s academy, scored six times in 31 league appearances for Leeds last campaign after joining the club from Wolfsburg. The 27-year-old Germany international also has previous Championship experience, having spent time on loan at Preston North End and Middlesbrough.

According to reports, Wrexham are hoping to persuade Nmecha to return to the Championship for another season despite his recent experience in the top flight.

Tuanzebe is another player reportedly on Parkinson’s radar. The 28-year-old became a free agent after his contract with Burnley expired and made 14 Premier League appearances for the Clarets last season. His campaign was disrupted by injury, an issue that has affected his career at various points.

The DR Congo international began his senior career at Manchester United, making 37 first-team appearances before later playing for Aston Villa, Napoli, Stoke City and Ipswich Town.

Tuanzebe has been linked with newly promoted Premier League side Hull City since leaving Burnley, but Wrexham are now said to be holding talks with the defender as they look to pull off another eye-catching signing.

The club’s recruitment drive comes shortly after reports emerged that Wrexham were pursuing Viking Stavanger centre-back Henrik Falchener.

The Norway international impressed at this summer’s World Cup, prompting interest from several clubs. Viking sporting director Erik Nevland confirmed that Wrexham had submitted an offer for the defender worth an exceptionally large amount by the club’s standards.

The proposal is believed to be worth approximately £8.1 million when potential bonuses are included, although Wrexham have already seen two offers rejected.

Discussing the size of the bids, Falchener explained that the financial figures involved were extraordinary and represented offers Viking had never previously come close to receiving.

Wrexham’s continued willingness to invest heavily underlines their determination to challenge for promotion, with the club seemingly prepared to make significant moves to turn their Premier League ambition into reality.
