Celtic Monitoring Newcastle Goalkeeper Nick Pope Amid Transfer Uncertainty

Celtic are reportedly keeping a close eye on Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope as they assess their options between the posts.

The experienced shot-stopper has seen his position at St James’ Park come under pressure following Newcastle’s recent additions of Lukas Hornicek and Ewen Jaouen.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Celtic are among the clubs monitoring Pope’s situation. Ipswich Town are also believed to be interested, while Championship sides Hull City and Wolves have reportedly been linked with the former England international.

Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle has already held discussions with Pope regarding his current position within the squad. The German coach acknowledged that the goalkeeper is aware of the situation and suggested the club will handle his circumstances carefully.

Pope joined Newcastle from Burnley in 2022 and has since established himself as an experienced Premier League goalkeeper. However, his future now appears uncertain following the arrival of further competition for the position.

The 34-year-old was not involved in Newcastle’s recent friendly victory over Valencia, further increasing speculation that he could be permitted to leave before the transfer window shuts.

For Celtic, Pope’s availability could present an opportunity to bring considerable experience into their squad, although it remains to be seen whether their reported interest develops into a formal approach.
