Will Lankshear believes working under Kim Hellberg has accelerated his development faster than at any other stage of his career, with the new Middlesbrough striker hailing the head coach’s tactical approach after only a short time at the club.

The 21-year-old completed a five-year move from Tottenham earlier this summer after Middlesbrough won the race for his signature. Just two weeks into life on Teesside, Lankshear says Hellberg’s coaching has already had a major influence on his game.

Speaking after featuring in the pre-season draw with Espanyol, Lankshear praised Hellberg’s detailed instructions and tactical clarity, insisting the manager’s ideas are proving effective on the pitch.

He explained that following Hellberg’s guidance during matches has given him confidence, adding that the team’s style of play has left him excited for the new campaign and eager to continue learning.

Lankshear also reflected on his loan spell at Oxford United, where he scored 12 goals and registered four assists despite the club’s relegation. He described the experience as an important step in his development but admitted his early days at Middlesbrough have taken his learning to another level.

According to the striker, he has absorbed more tactical knowledge in his first week under Hellberg than at any previous point in his career, crediting the manager for implementing an attractive brand of football.

With Middlesbrough aiming to bounce back after last season’s play-off final defeat to Hull City, Lankshear is expected to compete for a starting place alongside fellow summer signing Kyle Joseph and David Strelec.

Rather than setting a specific goal tally for the season, Lankshear says his focus is on giving everything in every match. However, he remains confident that his performances will produce goals as he looks to help Middlesbrough push for promotion.
