Jack Butland hits back at Troy Deeney over Jordan Pickford remarks
Jack Butland has defended Jordan Pickford amid growing criticism over the England goalkeeper’s recent performances at the 2026 World Cup.
Pickford, who remains Thomas Tuchel’s first-choice keeper for England national football team, has come under scrutiny after matches against Croatia national football team and Ghana national football team.

Former striker Troy Deeney was among those to question Pickford, but Butland made it clear he strongly disagrees with the criticism.
The Rangers F.C. goalkeeper praised Pickford’s track record in an England shirt, highlighting his importance in major tournaments and backing him to play a big role if England go deep in the competition.
Butland, who shared the international stage with Pickford during his own England career, believes the debate around the Everton shot-stopper is being overblown.
With the World Cup knockout stages approaching, Pickford’s performances will remain under the spotlight — but he still has the backing of those who know him best.
