Benjamin Nygren faces criticism from Swedish media after World Cup setback
Benjamin Nygren has come under heavy criticism from Swedish media after Sweden national football team suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Netherlands national football team in the World Cup.
The Celtic F.C. midfielder found it difficult to influence the game as Sweden struggled throughout the contest. His night ended just before the hour mark when he was replaced by Anthony Elanga, who later made an immediate impact by getting on the scoresheet.

Several Swedish outlets were critical of Nygren’s display, with some suggesting the team looked sharper after the substitution. While one of his set-piece deliveries did create a disallowed goal, his overall contribution in open play was questioned.
The reaction is a contrast to the praise Nygren received after Sweden’s opening World Cup win over Tunisia national football team, where he played a key role in a convincing performance.
Against the Dutch, however, it was a much tougher outing, and both Nygren and Sweden will now be looking to respond strongly in their next match.
