Danny Rohl release clause stance revealed amid ongoing Rangers and RB Salzburg discussions
Rangers remain in discussions with Austrian side RB Salzburg over the future of Danny Rohl, with the Bundesliga club keen to appoint the German coach immediately.
The 37-year-old arrived at Ibrox in October 2025 following Russell Martin’s dismissal and quickly oversaw an upturn in form. Rohl guided Rangers back into the Scottish Premiership title race and came close to delivering silverware, though a disappointing finish to the campaign ultimately derailed their challenge.

Despite some criticism from sections of the support and calls for change after the season ended, Rohl continues to attract admiration across Europe. Salzburg are understood to be maintaining contact with Rangers as they explore the possibility of luring him away.
Attention has now turned to the details of Rohl’s contract at Ibrox. After previously dismissing speculation linking him with a move to Wolfsburg, the Rangers boss may now be weighing up his long-term future following a turbulent first campaign in Glasgow.
However, reports suggest Salzburg may face a challenge in landing him. According to talkSPORT transfer correspondent Alex Crook, Rohl does not have a release clause in his Rangers contract, meaning any move would require negotiations between the clubs.
Rangers’ hierarchy, including Andrew Cavenagh, have publicly backed the manager despite the club falling short in the title race. Following the season, it was claimed Rohl demanded stronger leadership additions to the squad after a frustrating defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle.
The club have already moved to support him in the transfer market, securing Lawrence Shankland and identifying further targets including Dan Neil and Bryan Reynolds as part of Rohl’s vision for the squad.
Should the German opt to leave at this stage of the summer, it would represent a major setback for Rangers after significant planning has already taken place around his long-term project at Ibrox.
