Bristol City are reportedly lining up a potential move for Huddersfield Town striker

Bristol City are reportedly considering a move for Huddersfield Town striker Joe Taylor, although any deal would depend heavily on the asking price being deemed suitable.

According to sources cited by Football Lowdown, Taylor—who scored 18 goals across spells with Huddersfield and Wigan last season—is a key target for new Bristol City manager Michael Skubala as he begins shaping his squad. The pair previously worked together at Lincoln City, and Taylor is understood to be open to another Championship opportunity.

Reports suggest Huddersfield are willing to sanction a sale, but only if they receive appropriate value for the forward. While earlier figures around £3 million had been mentioned, the initial fee was reportedly lower, meaning a deal could potentially be done for closer to £2 million.

Taylor’s career has taken him through several levels of English football, starting at Norwich City’s academy before rebuilding at King’s Lynn Town. A spell at Peterborough United followed, before he joined Luton Town and was part of their promotion-winning squad to the Premier League.

His breakthrough in front of goal came during a productive loan at Colchester United, where he netted 11 goals in 25 League Two appearances, before an impressive stint under Skubala at Lincoln City yielded 10 goals in 19 games and helped establish his reputation.

A permanent move to Huddersfield followed, where he scored seven goals before spending time on loan at Wigan Athletic. His form there—11 goals in all competitions—further increased interest from clubs across the EFL.

Earlier interest had also been reported from Preston North End and Oxford United, although relegation has complicated Oxford’s position in the race for his signature. Bristol City, however, have now emerged as fresh contenders, with Skubala’s previous relationship with the striker seen as a major advantage.

Taylor has at times been used out of position at Huddersfield, but has looked most effective as a central striker in a system that allows him to play on the shoulder of defenders and attack space—similar to how he thrived at Lincoln.

With Bristol City also adjusting their attacking options following recent departures, the club’s need for a natural number nine could accelerate their interest if negotiations around the fee prove favourable.
