Rangers handed huge boost as £60m star eyes move to join Danny Röhl

Rangers F.C. are wasting no time in the transfer market following the signing of Lawrence Shankland, with more arrivals potentially on the way as Danny Röhl looks to strengthen his squad.

The Ibrox side have already been linked with a move for Dundee defender Luke Graham, while former Rangers forward Josh Windass has also been mentioned as a possible return option. Midfield reinforcements remain a key focus too, with Sunderland’s Dan Neil still firmly on the radar after interest earlier this year.

Reports recently suggested Rangers were edging closer to a move for Neil, whose long-term future remains uncertain following his loan spell at Ipswich Town. Although Coventry City are believed to be interested, Rangers are thought to be in a strong position due to Röhl’s admiration for the midfielder.

However, another Championship player may now be emerging as an even bigger target. According to reports, Röhl is keen to reunite with Shea Charles at Rangers following their successful spell together at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Southampton midfielder, who impressed on loan in the Championship, is reportedly open to the idea of working with Röhl again. Rangers could face stiff competition for his signature, though, with Sheffield United also monitoring the situation.

Charles is viewed by some as having a higher ceiling than Neil, with EFL expert Ali Maxwell previously describing the Northern Ireland international as a player capable of becoming worth £50m–£60m in the future.

After a difficult start at Southampton following his move from Manchester City, Charles thrived under Röhl at Sheffield Wednesday, making over 40 Championship appearances and contributing goals, assists and strong creative numbers from a deeper midfield role.

Defensively, the 22-year-old also stood out, regularly winning tackles and interceptions while showing greater all-round midfield influence statistically than Neil across the season.

While signing Neil on a free transfer would still appeal financially, Rangers may view Charles as the higher-upside option if a deal can be agreed this summer.
