Sheffield Wednesday midfielder departs after farewell message
It was previously reported last month that the 21-year-old would leave once his contract expired, and the player has now officially confirmed his departure from Sheffield Wednesday.

In a heartfelt message on Instagram, the midfielder said: “After 14 years, my time at Sheffield Wednesday is over. I’d like to thank all the staff and players over the years, and I wish you all the best.”
Rio Shipston moves on
Rio Shipston has come through the ranks at Wednesday and made 13 senior appearances for his boyhood club. He also gained valuable experience last season during a loan spell with Cork City in the League of Ireland, where he impressed with several strong performances.
Following confirmation of his exit, messages of support poured in from current and former teammates, including Barry Bannan, Shea Charles, and Josh Windass. Fellow academy graduates such as Pierce Charles, Will Grainger, and Bailey Cadamarteri also shared their well-wishes.
Shipston will now look to secure a new club ahead of next season as he begins the next chapter of his career, with supporters hoping the homegrown midfielder can go on to succeed away from Hillsborough after his long spell at the club.
