Rangers must make straightforward call on sell-on clause in Emmanuel Fernandez transfer deal
Rangers F.C. look set to make a significant profit from Emmanuel Fernandez in one of the upcoming transfer windows, following his rapid rise since arriving at Ibrox.
The defender joined from Peterborough United F.C. for around £3 million last summer and, despite a slow start, has developed into a key figure under Danny Rohl. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with top clubs such as Arsenal F.C. reportedly monitoring his progress closely, making a big-money move in the near future a real possibility.

Fernandez could potentially become one of the biggest sales in the club’s history, surpassing the record set by Calvin Bassey when he joined AFC Ajax for around £19 million in 2022. Former Scotland international Kevin Kyle believes the centre-back’s value could rise even further in the coming years, which is why including a sell-on clause in any deal would be a smart move for Rangers.
While losing Fernandez after just one season would be a blow, it could represent a major financial opportunity for the club. With new decision-makers looking to improve their transfer strategy, cashing in at the right time—while also protecting future value through clauses—could mark a shift from previous mistakes in player trading.
Fernandez’s future remains uncertain, but his potential is clear. Observers believe he has all the attributes needed to develop into a top-level defender, and if he secures a move to the right club, his value could increase even further over the next few years.
At the same time, Rangers must also consider the situation of Nasser Djiga, who has formed a strong defensive partnership with Fernandez in recent weeks. Djiga is expected to return to Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. at the end of his loan, and the club will be eager to retain him if possible.
Ideally, Rangers would like to keep both defenders as part of a long-term plan, but if that proves impossible, their priority will be to avoid losing both in the same transfer window, ensuring stability at the heart of their defence moving forward.
