Rangers F.C. are preparing for the likely departure of Nasser Djiga at the end of his loan spell, with Gilberto Batistaemerging as a potential replacement target.

Although Rangers would prefer to keep Djiga at Ibrox beyond this season, the situation remains uncertain. Following Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C.

relegation, there is a possibility that new boss Rob Edwards could reintegrate the defender into his plans for the Championship campaign. Reports have indicated that Wolves will assess Djiga during the summer, casting doubt over whether a return to Scotland is feasible.

With that uncertainty in mind, Rangers have begun identifying alternative centre-back options, and Batista has reportedly caught their attention. The 22-year-old has impressed this season with Moreirense F.C., playing a key role in their strong league campaign as they sit comfortably in the top half of the table.

According to reports from Portugal, Rangers are closely monitoring Batista’s contract situation, with his performances said to have attracted interest from the Glasgow club. Moreirense are keen to tie him down to a new deal and have already made an offer, but any hesitation from the player could open the door for a transfer.

A move in the region of €3 million (£2.6 million) has been suggested, making Batista a relatively affordable option. Rangers’ interest may also be influenced by the success of Emmanuel Fernandez, whose rise at Ibrox has demonstrated the club’s ability to develop defenders and increase their market value significantly.

Fernandez has formed a strong partnership with Djiga in defence, and losing that combination would be a setback.

However, the Nigerian international’s continued presence could help ease any transition, as he has already proven capable of adapting and performing at a high level regardless of his defensive partner.

As Rangers weigh up their options ahead of the summer window, Batista’s situation will remain one to watch closely, particularly if his contract talks stall and create an opportunity for the Scottish side to make their move.
