Matos praises Swansea’s ‘emotional’ comeback as Blades let lead slip

Vítor Matos was full of praise for his side after Swansea City produced a thrilling comeback to draw 3-3 with Sheffield United.

Trailing 3-1, Swansea showed great character to fight back, with substitutes playing a decisive role. Adam Idah and Eom Ji-sung combined to rescue a point late on, underlining the impact from the bench.

Matos described the match as “emotional” and praised the energy his substitutes brought, highlighting the influence of players like Jay Fulton in restoring control and balance in midfield. He also commended Eom’s effort after a demanding international schedule, stressing the importance of squad depth in such intense encounters.

While Swansea celebrated a hard-earned point, it was a frustrating night for Chris Wilder. The Sheffield United boss saw his side surrender a two-goal lead despite goals from Gustavo Hamer, Harrison Burrows, and Tom Cannon.

Wilder admitted he was “annoyed, frustrated, irritated” after watching his team drop more points from winning positions, a recurring issue this season. He also hinted at major changes ahead, promising to reshape the squad and mentality in the summer.

Swansea’s late fightback ensured a share of the spoils—but for Sheffield United, it was another painful reminder of missed opportunities.
