Big changes expected at Sheffield Wednesday amid David Storch takeover move
David Storch is edging closer to completing a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday and has already started laying out his vision for the club ahead of the 2026/27 League One season.
He arrives at Hillsborough facing a hugely challenging situation, with the Owls set to begin the campaign on a -15 points deduction. That reality shifts the focus away from immediate promotion and towards rebuilding stability, restoring direction, and gradually moving the club forward.
For supporters, one of the key early expectations will be the creation of a tough, mentally resilient squad capable of handling pressure and grinding out results. Establishing a clear playing identity will also be crucial, especially as progress is likely to be gradual rather than instant. Patience will be required.
However, the issues go far beyond what happens on the pitch. Long-term success will depend on sorting out deeper structural problems, including infrastructure and a more coherent recruitment strategy. The aim must be to move away from short-term fixes and build a sustainable foundation that prevents future crises.
According to journalist Joe Crann, Storch’s early plans focus on “small wins,” such as removing asbestos, preserving Category 2 academy status, upgrading utilities at the stadium, and reconnecting with the club’s heritage.
Off the pitch, restoring financial stability remains a top priority after recent turmoil. Ensuring wages, transfers, and day-to-day operations are sustainable will be essential, while rebuilding trust with supporters through transparency and unity could play a key role in reconnecting a divided fanbase.
