Without playing for Argentina anymore because of a knee injury, Garnacho retires.
Because of a knee injury, Alejandro Garnacho, a winger for Manchester United, will not play for Argentina in their World Cup tests against Venezuela and Bolivia.
The 20-year-old played all 90 minutes of United’s 0-0 Premier League draw at Aston Villa on Sunday with a strap around his left knee. Facundo Buonanotte from Leicester City has been put in his place in the Argentina group.
At the top of the South American qualifying table, the world winners are two points ahead of Colombia in second place.
Argentina, led by Lionel Scaloni, will play sixth-placed Venezuela on Thursday and eighth-placed Bolivia at home next Tuesday.
In the summer, Garnacho helped Argentina win a record 16th Copa America title. He has played seven times for his country.
Also, Noussair Mazraoui, 26, a teammate of Garnacho’s at United, has been taken off of Morocco’s group for their two games against the Central African Republic in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Mazraoui was taken off at halftime in the Midlands. He had started every league game for the club since August, when he arrived from Bayern Munich.
