With a thrilling come-from-behind win over Gonzaga 90-89 in OT, Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats continue to make history.

What a terrible first half for the Wildcats! But in the second half, when they found their flow, they pulled off an amazing comeback.

ESPN (via Cameron Drummond) says that Pope and famous coach Adolph Rupp are the only Kentucky coaches to win their first two games against AP Top-10 teams. This made the win even more special.

The Wildcats also came back from being down 16 points at halfway, which was one of the biggest comebacks in school history.

When Gonzaga had a double-digit lead at halftime, they were almost impossible to beat. Before Kentucky won in overtime, they had won 175 straight games in this position.

In that case, that’s more than four seasons of wins. Kentucky put an end to it.

It’s now tied for the biggest comeback from halftime in the history of Kentucky basketball. They last did something like this against Louisville on December 18, 2004, and before that, they did it against LSU on February 15, 1994.

And finally, Corey Price says this is the biggest comeback Kentucky has ever had at halfway in a neutral-site game.

Over the course of the season, Pope’s team has shown amazing toughness. They came back to beat Duke after being down by nine points at halftime, kept it close against Clemson even though they lost badly, and beat Gonzaga after falling behind by 18 points.

These games show how skilled this Kentucky team really is. The Wildcats fought back to win an exciting game, even though their starter point guard Lamont Butler and backup point guard Kerr Kriisa were both hurt. Fans love Pope and this team because of their grit and drive.
