Who Erik ten Hag must start up front if Rasmus Hojlund remains unavailable for United’s clash with Everton
As Rasmus Hojlund’s fitness remains uncertain, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag must start Marcus Rashford in the central forward position.
The manager updated the press on Hojlund’s condition since he exited the game injured in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory at Luton Town.
At his knees, the striker extended the rear of his right leg. Following this, he was unable to participate in the recent international matches in order to recuperate from his injury.
Ten Hag remarked (as cited in ManUtd.com): “Rasmus Hojlund, not terrible. There will be intense competition in Everton, but we are putting forth our best effort.
“We are unsure if he will be able to make that, but he will hopefully return to the squad within the following week.”
Since Hojlund is in a race against time to recover, starting him in two consecutive games within three days would not be a prudent decision.
Ten Hag would also be focused on the match against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park the following weekend.
Both groups are striving to finish in the top four of the Premier League standings.
The Magpies’ elimination of the Red Devils from the Carabao Cup earlier this month will boost their confidence.
Given the rapid succession of upcoming matches, Ten Hag ought to exercise caution regarding Hojlund’s physical condition.
The 20-year-old has scored five goals in four appearances for the club in the Champions League, making him their standout performer this year.
Left-winger Marcus Rashford predisposes him away from being a natural striker.
Last season, the €75 million hero performed admirably from the center position, accumulating five assists and eleven goals in 19 games.
James Tarkowski, who is scheduled to start at center back for Everton on Sunday, could be profoundly troubled by his blistering speed.
By having Marcus Rashford operate centrally, Alejandro Garnacho will be able to begin the game from the left flank.
An engagement between Ashley Young, a former United captain, and Garnacho might prove to be a captivating spectacle.
The Frenchman Anthony Martial is an alternative candidate for the center-forward position, but in his few appearances this season, he has hardly appeared menacing.
