What we know about Youssef Chermiti’s injury after surgery: the Everton striker has missed the whole season so far

Alan Myers says that Youssef Chermiti hasn’t played for Everton yet this season and that there aren’t any signs that he will be back soon.

The Sky Sports commentator was asked about the young striker’s return to the Toffees via X on October 19, but he didn’t have any good news.

Before the season started, Chermiti, 20, had surgery on his foot [The Athletic, August 5]. No date was given for his return, but it doesn’t look like he will be back any time soon [The Athletic, August 5].

“I’m not aware of anything imminent,” Myers wrote.

Long-term, Sean Dyche won’t have an Everton striker.

It’s especially difficult for Chermiti because the young Portuguese player had a good preseason and looked like he was ready to make a big impact for Everton [BBC Sport, July 28].

He played 20 times for the first team last season under Sean Dyche, but he didn’t score because only two of those games were starts and the rest were late additions in the last few minutes.

At this important point in his development, being away for a long time is certainly not ideal, and when he finally comes back, the hope is that it hasn’t set the process back too far.

It’s possible that Armando Broja’s loan move from Chelsea has pushed him further down the rankings when that time comes. However, the Albanian hasn’t played this season because his parent club is paying for everything until he does [Liverpool Echo, August 31].

It’s not clear what will happen with Beto because the senior striker who came with his colleague two summers ago has only played in seven games and started two of them.

Because of a rough start to the season, Dyche hasn’t moved the team very much, so Dominic Calvert-Lewin has played all the minutes.

Juventus wants both of the senior players in January. Everton could let the Portuguese player go if Broja’s return goes as planned [Graeme Bailey, 16 October]. Calvert-Lewin is now in talks about extending his contract [TEAMtalk, 13 October], and he showed again in the 2-0 win at Ipswich on October 19 why the club wants him to stay.
