Manchester United
What really happened with Liverpool is about to be revealed, and Arsenal’s fear and confusion will become clear.
Every week, the claim that Liverpool “have yet to play anyone” this season is getting less and less useful. After beating Manchester United 3-0 on the road, they were able to add another win at Anfield last Sunday, this time against a refreshed Chelsea team.
We’re told that six points against United and Chelsea isn’t bad for a team that hasn’t really been tested yet. But while claims that the Premier League leaders have had it easy so far don’t quite hold up to close examination, Arne Slot’s first game as head coach on Sunday at Arsenal will be very different.
In the last few years, trips to that part of north London have been painful, at least in the Premier League. This is the first time since 2022 that Liverpool has ended higher than Mikel Arteta’s team. In their last two league games at the Emirates, they’ve given up six goals.
Even so, there are many reasons to think that the hosts’ game on Sunday is a much more important afternoon. Last week, the league leaders took advantage of Arsenal’s mistake at Bournemouth. Now, Arteta has to deal with the fact that if they lose, they could fall seven points behind Slot’s team.
So, Arteta shouldn’t be dealing with a lot of injuries right now, especially since his best center back, William Saliba, is also banned. The Gunners manager wanted to keep things quiet on Friday, but Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber, and Riccardo Calafiori might not be able to play this weekend when the Reds come to town. Not only that, but Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney are also out, which is making things even worse for Arteta right now.
It will be interesting to see how Arsenal handle not having so many key players for what is the Premier League’s most important game this weekend. The club has a reputation, whether fair or not, for being able to ride their luck when key players get hurt over the last couple of years. It is impossible for the Gunners to lose, especially since winners Manchester City are playing struggling Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
According to Arteta, Liverpool is a team that has been playing at the top level for nine years. “They know how to compete and how to make you afraid when the ball is really far away, especially when it’s in the outside units.”
“They’re dangerous and could hurt you.” It has been there every year for nine years. We can say that they are very good at what they do. Currently, they are having a great run. An already very strong team has been improved by his touch. This team has Slot’s hands all over it.
What should drive the Reds’ away team on the day of the game is the chance to open up a huge seven-point gap on their title rivals. Being behind by that much might not be fatal this early in the season, but it would be scary for Arsenal, who probably still think that City is the team to beat.
Because of this, all the worry and fear could bring down Liverpool this weekend, who should be feeling good. Their recent record of 11 wins in 12 games across all divisions makes them the best team in English football. A trip to the Emirates does mean they will be up against better players, but they will rarely have a better chance to turn things around than on Sunday.
That being said, how cruel is this new Liverpool team? Soon, we’ll know.
