Wayne Rooney promptly withdraws from BBC’s Euro 2024 coverage after voicing two grievances.
Wayne Rooney has resigned from his position as a pundit for the BBC at Euro 2024. He will be returning to England to assume the manager’s role at Plymouth Argyle.
Wayne Rooney has acknowledged his disappointment at not being able to contribute to any England games following his departure from the BBC’s Euro 2024 coverage.
Throughout the group phases of the tournament, Rooney has been employed by the corporation in Germany. However, he declared on Wednesday that he would be returning to England forthwith.
Plymouth Argyle’s new manager, the England legend, will commence his duties next week. His squad is scheduled to resume training. Initially, it was anticipated that Rooney would serve as a pundit for the BBC for the duration of the tournament.
However, his intentions were altered when he accepted the position at Plymouth. His final match was a goalless draw between Belgium and Ukraine on Wednesday. The Manchester United legend has now acknowledged that his departure was accompanied by a number of disappointments.
“Yes, it has been satisfactory.” It is evident that it is distinct and novel in comparison to my previous experiences. “I have previously worked in television, but I have spent a significant amount of time here. Consequently, it has been somewhat unique, but I have found it to be quite enjoyable,” he stated during the Football Daily podcast.
“Regrettably, I have not had the opportunity to discuss any of the England games, and the ones I have attended have not been particularly memorable. Nevertheless, it is enjoyable to visit.” A flight to my hometown is scheduled for tomorrow.
“I will be returning home and immediately travelling to Plymouth on July 3rd, as the boys are returning.” The enthusiasm was palpable today as you observed the fixtures. You are extremely enthusiastic as you review the opening games, your Christmas schedule, and other relevant information.
The BBC selected two of England’s three group stage games; however, Rooney was not nominated as a pundit for either match. Instead, Gary Lineker served as the presenter for the coverage of Serbia’s victory, while Cesc Fabregas, Rio Ferdinand, and Micah Richards served as the pundits.
Subsequently, Ferdinand, Richards, and Brentford manager Thomas Frank joined Lineker for the stalemate against Denmark. Rooney is the second pundit to publicly declare their departure from the BBC’s coverage.
Rachel Corsie, the captain of the Scotland Women’s team, was a member of the BBC’s punditry squad for Scotland’s matches in Germany. However, they were eliminated from the tournament following a draw with Switzerland, as well as losses to Hungary and the hosts.
The Scots were relegated to the bottom of Group A as a result of their loss to Hungary. In a Twitter message following the game, Corsie disclosed that she would be withdrawing from the BBC’s coverage.
Corsie wrote, “I am devastated to be returning home,” in addition to two photographs of herself working for the corporation. I am extremely appreciative of the @BBCSport experience at @EURO2024. Additionally, I would like to extend my gratitude to all for their generous assistance.
