Watch All Goal Video: Manchester City vs Chelsea (4-4) – Goal scorers E. Haaland, T. Silva, R. Sterling, M. Akanji, N. Jackson, Rodri, C. Palmer
Manchester City stayed on top of the Premier League this afternoon, but they are now only a point ahead of their rivals after a thrilling 4–4 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Since returning from the October international break, Pep Guardiola’s team has had a great run of five straight wins in all categories. They easily beat Swiss team BSC Young Boys 3-0 on Tuesday in the Champions League. Erling Haaland scored twice and Phil Foden scored once, giving them the win.
City didn’t have defender John Stones for this afternoon’s game because he hurt his shoulder again in the win over Young Boys last week. But Manuel Akanji, who didn’t play in the European game, was healthy and ready to go again. Nathan Ake missed the game because he got hurt again.
It was a questionable call that Marc Cucurella had pulled down Erling Haaland, who scored the first goal for City from the penalty spot. Following the goal, Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling scored two quick goals for Chelsea. Akanji’s header tied the game at halftime.
City took the lead in the second half through Erling Haaland and again through Rodri’s blocked shot after Nicolas Jackson tied the game. In extra time, though, Cole Palmer stepped up and scored a penalty to tie the game against his old team.
