United “made an early decision” regarding Sofyan Amrabat following his summer transfer.
According to reports from Italy, Manchester United has reached an initial decision regarding the future of Sofyan Amrabat following the conclusion of his loan from Fiorentina.
Throughout the January transfer window, several elite clubs, including Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona, held interest in the Morocco midfielder, who excelled at the 2022 World Cup.
However, he remained with Fiorentina until the conclusion of the season, assisting the club to the Europa Conference League final before their 0–0 loss to West Ham in Prague.
Amrabat concluded a loan transfer to Old Trafford on August’s transfer deadline, following an extended saga; Erik ten Hag reportedly regarded him as an indispensable addition to United’s midfield.
For the 27-year-old, however, the start to life at the club has been quite difficult.
Due to injury, he failed to make his United debut until September 23, and in both of his most recent appearances for the club, he was substituted at halftime.
Amrabat has been substituted in both of United’s most recent two Premier League matches, and his future role remains uncertain for the remainder of the season, notwithstanding his encouraging performances in the previous contests.
The Moroccan is “very likely,” per the Italian publication Fiorentina News, to return to Fiorentina this summer rather than sign a permanent contract with United.
Additionally, it is asserted that he is “less likely” to re-appear for the Italian team and “more likely” to contract with a different club.
Ten Hag cited Amrabat’s versatility as a deciding element in his decision to acquire him, stating on the official United website, “He can also operate from a higher position on the field, as well as a full-back or wing-back.”
Throughout the squad’s full-back injury crisis, the 27-year-old appeared on multiple occasions at left-back. Although he delivered respectable performances, it became evident that his natural position was in the midfield, where he would be more effective.
Undoubtedly, should United, as the report assert, contemplate the possibility of deferring the permanent signing of Amrabat, that perspective may undoubtedly evolve throughout the course of the campaign.
