TBR Football has been told that the hiring of Ruben Amorim as manager is a “landmark” moment for both Manchester United and their sports director, Dan Ashworth.

When Ashworth started working in July, most of the people who would be hired before him had already been hired. He was very important in the hiring process during the summer.

But now that Ashworth fired Erik ten Hag and hired Amorim to replace him, he has full power over football at United.

As United’s new head coach, Dan Ashworth made the choice that Ten Hag had to leave after their 3-0 loss to Tottenham in September. TBR Football can confirm that Ashworth made that decision.

We’ve heard that Ashworth already knew he wanted a head coach instead of a manager. That was a big deal because United had never had a head coach before.

Though they were interested in Thomas Frank and Julian Nageslmann, Amorim quickly became their top choice after talks.

At first, Amorim said he wanted to stay with Sporting until the end of the season, but he now says United were persistent in their chase, which club sources call a “landmark” moment for the Red Devils.

When asked about staying until the end of the season, Amorim said, “For three days I said I wanted to stay, but then I was told it wasn’t possible.”

“Now or never, or Manchester would choose something else.” So I had three days to decide what I wanted to do, to make a choice that would very much change my life.

Ashworth did a lot to win over Amorim. One thing he did was reassure him that he would not be messing with the first team and would help him in any way possible, similar to how Txiki Begiristain and Pep Guardiola work together at Manchester City.

Amorim will have a say in any deals that might happen, but Ashworth will choose the players and have the final say on hiring.

A lot of players on Amorim’s present Sporting team have been linked to United, but the manager says none of them will be leaving in January.

The Sporting manager said, “I’m not going to pick up any player in January.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe got Ashworth because of the way Manchester City was set up.

We know from TBR Football that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is a co-owner, and Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc, who are both board members at United and work for INEOS, agreed with Ashworth’s choice of Amorim.

We’re told that Ratcliffe thinks Ashworth’s handling of Ten Hag and Amorim has shown that he was the right person to be appointed.

Ratcliffe, Brailsford, and Blanc knew which teams in Europe were the best at running their businesses, but they didn’t have to look far because they are sure that Manchester City, who are their neighbours, is the best at running its business.

They saw how important director of football Txiki Begiristain was to the whole club and wanted one of their own. They quickly found Ashworth and made an offer. He took it, and after a long fight with Newcastle United, he agreed to move.

They hired Ashworth to run the football operations of their new football department, which also has CEO Omar Berrarda and technical director Jason Wilcox.

But Ashworth was always supposed to be the main man, and he has taken on the job with ease, just like Begiristain. The news isn’t about him, it’s about the club and moving them forward.
