Two popular football pundits Paul Merson and Chris Sutton predict who will win Chelsea vs Leicester City FA Cup on sunday
Leicester City smashed past Chelsea in the FA Cup final three years ago, and Chelsea will want to get back at them.
Both Paul Merson and Chris Sutton have said that they think Chelsea will beat Leicester City this weekend. On Sunday afternoon, Mauricio Pochettino will host the Foxes at Stamford Bridge. Both teams are trying to finish in the top four of the FA Cup.
The Blues are coming into the game after beating Newcastle United 3-2. Enzo Maresca’s team, on the other hand, will be looking to get back to winning ways after a 2-2 draw with Hull City at the MKM Stadium. Chelsea is having a hard time getting into the top half of the Premier League table. Next season, the FA Cup could be their only way to get to Europe.
In fact, the west London team missed out on a spot in the Europa Conference League because they lost the Carabao Cup final last month to Liverpool. In a column for SportsKeeda, Merson said that Pochettino could lose his job at Chelsea and the fans’ backing that he still had if they lost to Leicester.
The former Arsenal player said, “I have to pick Chelsea because Leicester City have other things to do right now.” “I don’t think they need this football game right now; they need to focus on getting back to the Premier League next season.”
The issue with Mauricio Pochettino’s team is that they play well for 10 minutes and then badly for 20. They need to improve in this area. Getting to the FA Cup playoffs will make Chelsea fans very happy.
“They will barely be able to finish the season if they lose, and it will look bad for the manager if they lose to a Championship team.” Leicester City lost 3–1 to Chelsea.
Sutton told BBC Sport that Chelsea might be angry because they lost the FA Cup final to Leicester City in 2021. The ex-Blues striker said, “I think there will still be a huge disappointment at how Chelsea gave up in extra time of the Carabao Cup final and lost to Liverpool’s kids.”
“So their main goal here is to get back to Wembley and make things right.” But that’s not the only reason why the FA Cup is so important to Chelsea. Their play in the Premier League has gotten better lately, but they won’t make it to the Champions League, which was the goal from the start.
A lot of Chelsea fans are angry at the club’s owners and manager Mauricio Pochettino right now, and I don’t think that will change no matter what they do in the league until the end of the season.
“But they can still end the season on a high note by winning the FA Cup, where they have a good track record lately. From 2020 to 2022, they were runners-up three years in a row, including the final in 2021, which they lost to Leicester.” Chelsea is at home, and I’m also interested in how Enzo Maresca, the boss of Leicester, will play this game.
Even though his team is still in first place in the Championship, they have only won one of their last five league games, which is a bit of a slump. What Maresca will be thinking about is their automatic promotion bid, which will depend on how well they do in the nine league games they play from March 29 to May 4.
“Of course, they also have the international break, but he will be looking ahead to his team’s run-in, and that could affect the team he picks for Stamford Bridge. In the last round, Chelsea had to work hard to beat Leeds, another high-flying Championship team. I think they’ll win this one easily, though.
