The Athletic reports that Newcastle United is contemplating a transfer for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi.

Newcastle is expressing interest in the 26-year-old, who joined Chelsea only 12 months ago. He may be on the move.

Disasi is among the numerous players who may depart Stamford Bridge this summer, as the Blues endeavour to reduce the size of their overstuffed roster.

Under former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, the France international was a consistent performer. Throughout all competitions, he was featured 44 times and scored three goals.

Nevertheless, it is not apparent that he is included in Enzo Maresca’s intentions. His sole appearance this season was in the first leg of the Europa Conference League play-off, which resulted in a 2-0 victory over Servette.

Last summer, Chelsea acquired Disasi from AS Monaco for approximately £38 million. The Blues are expected to request a substantial fee for his signature, as he has five years remaining on his contract.

Newcastle is eager to acquire a prominent defender this summer; however, their foremost objective is to acquire Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Palace is requesting a club-record fee in order to permit the England international to depart the club, and the Magpies have had numerous proposals rejected for him.

Newcastle is also investigating potential alternatives, and Disasi is one of several names on their extensive shortlist. Despite this, both clubs are still in discussions regarding a potential transaction.

Newcastle is also contemplating Edmond Tapsoba, a centre-back for Bayer Leverkusen, as a potential candidate for defensive reinforcement.

The Bundesliga champions have been contacted to enquire about the feasibility of a deal for the Burkina Faso international.

Tapsoba is an essential component of Xabi Alonso’s setup at Leverkusen and was instrumental in their remarkable double-winning victory last season.

He scored three times and was featured in 46 competitions.

Newcastle has made a promising start to the 2024/25 season, surpassing Southampton, which was recently promoted, before ultimately settling for a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.
