TRANSFER: Huge Ivan Toney transfer update expected in 24hrs as player misses clash against Liverpool.
Brentford’s star striker, Ivan Toney, has been excluded from the matchday squad for the second consecutive week in the Premier League. Thomas Frank is expected to manage without his star player against Liverpool, as Toney is expected to complete a transfer to Saudi Arabia within the next 24 hours, according to reports.
Toney has been a standout player in Brentford’s new era under Frank, surpassing the Championship record for goals scored in a season with 30 in the 2020/21 season. He transitioned seamlessly to the Premier League. Brentford’s survival was ensured by 12 goals in his inaugural season, and the subsequent campaign saw the west London club come within two points of qualifying for European football with 20 goals. Despite his struggles this season following his return from a gambling suspension, the Englishman is reportedly preparing to embark on a new endeavour, with reports suggesting that he will be travelling to Saudi Arabia.
According to Ben Jacobs’ report, the Saudi Pro League vice-chairman, Saad Al-Lazeez, and sorting director, Michael Emenalo, are currently in London with the intention of finalising the Toney transaction between Al-Ahli and Brentford within the next 24 hours.
The England striker has been associated with a move to the Middle East for an extended period of time. However, the speculation was further fuelled by his absence from Brentford’s curtain-raiser against Crystal Palace last week.
The star was once again excluded from the Bees’ match-day roster against Liverpool on Sunday, and negotiations have now progressed to the point of agreement with Matthias Jaissle’s team. In anticipation of the Saudi Pro League deadline on Monday, the two clubs are currently in the midst of’very advanced’ negotiations. Clarity is anticipated to be achieved shortly.
Toney was reported to be considering a move to Saudi Arabia earlier in the month. However, despite being linked to Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur throughout the summer, it appears that he is destined for a move to Asia.
The Saudi Pro League is a major attraction for athletes seeking a substantial increase in their wages. The lucrative compensation package available in the Middle East is a significant factor in their decision to relocate abroad.
Toney’s situation is no exception. The former Newcastle United player has requested a salary of £17 million per year, which equates to £325,000 per week. In the SPL, wages are tax-free. This information was reported by talkSPORT.
Toney’s weekly salary at the Gtech Community Stadium is £20,000, as per Capology. Therefore, if he is awarded a £325,000 salary in Saudi Arabia, his compensation will increase by sixteenfold.
Toney has demonstrated his ability to perform on a grand scale by scoring a crucial header for Harry Kane’s extra-time winner against Slovakia and a superb penalty in the shootout against Switzerland in the quarter-final while representing England at EURO 2024. If his transfer is approved, he will be vying for the SPL top goalscorer award.
