This weekend, three important link targets are going to Texas.
Steve Sarkisian, head coach of the Texas football team, has been through the busy winter NCAA Transfer Portal time. Over the next few weeks, during this transfer window, Sarkisian and his team will get a better idea of what Texas’s roster will look like during the offseason in 2025, which will start in the spring.
A primer on the early portal window for the upcoming transfer guests to Texas football
The Longhorns are getting ready to play the 12th-seeded Clemson Tigers in the first round of the College Football Playoff next weekend in Austin. At the same time, they have been actively shopping the portal for instant impact upgrades to this squad.
Three portal visitors have already been to Texas this week, and one of them has already promised to join and signed their papers. Senior punter Jack Bouwmeester, who used to play for the Utah Utes, committed to Texas while he was on his portal visit to Austin today.
This weekend, the number of users from Texas portal targets that are high on the list keeps going down. From the transfer site, here is a list of the teams that will be visiting the Longhorns in the next few days.
Cole Brevard, DT (Purdue)
Cole Brevard, a defensive end who used to play for the Purdue Boilermakers and is now a senior transfer, is visiting Texas right now. As of December 3, Brevard signed up for the site as a graduate transfer.
This season, Brevard was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention defensive blocker for Purdue. He is 6 feet 3 inches tall and 330 pounds, which is a good size for a nose tackle. The Longhorns want him.
Brevard went to see the SMU Mustangs yesterday (Dec. 12), which was a few hours up I-35 in Dallas. Today, he is going to the Forty Acres. Besides Texas and SMU, he doesn’t have any other plans to visit schools.
Arkansas’s Brad Spence is an LB.
Former Arkansas Razorbacks junior transfer linebacker Brad Spence is another portal visitor that the Longhorns started having on campus today.
Texas is looking to add more linebackers from the gate who have played in the P4 before.
Over the last two seasons, Spence has played in 23 games for Arkansas and has made 70 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one interception, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery.
This season, Spence did a good job for Arkansas’ defense against Texas. He had seven tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, two QB pressures, and three defensive stops in 31 defensive snaps.
Football player Eric Singleton Jr. (Georgia Tech)*
The most-anticipated visit the Longhorns have coming up in the next few days is with Eric Singleton Jr., a fast former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets junior wide receiver.
247Sports says that the No. 1 transfer for this portal cycle has already visited the Auburn Tigers, the Georgia Bulldogs, and the Ole Miss Rebels this week.
Singleton is going to visit Texas and the Miami Hurricanes early next week, among other possible stops at other P4 schools. On Monday (Dec. 16), he starts his trip to Texas.
