Things have gone badly for the Kentucky Wildcats in the CBS Sports Classic in the past.

The network puts together the same four teams every year for the CBS Sports Classic: North Carolina, Ohio State, Kentucky, and UCLA. Every year, the teams and sites change, but the games between the same teams will always happen. Kentucky has a strange past with this event.

The eye test is what makes this event strange. If you didn’t plan to, you could ask any basketball fan which of these four teams is the best from year to year. Based on the year, Kentucky and North Carolina (especially when Roy Williams is in charge) might be the best teams, with UCLA being in the mix. Ohio State isn’t a top-tier basketball program, but they have had good games.

If you had to guess Kentucky’s record against these teams, you’d be surprised to learn that Ohio State is the only one they haven’t beaten in the CBS Sports Classic. They have won against Ohio State in other events and places, but never in the CBS Sports Classic. This link has more information about that past. They also have a 1-2 record against the UCLA Bruins. As a team with a 4-1 record, Kentucky only seems to lose to the Tar Heels in this event. That’s strange.

A Kentucky fan on Twitter also pointed out that the Wildcats haven’t won both the CBS Sports Classic and their other annual game, the Champions Classic, in the same year since 2016. They usually lose the other one if they win the first one.

If you forgot, Kentucky already won the Champions Classic this year by beating Duke, who was ranked sixth. Not only does this not mean that they are destined to lose to Ohio State, but it is also time for that run to end. Kentucky should win both the 2016 and 2014 seasons.
