There may only be two minutes for Erik ten Hag before there is again pressure on Man United to fire him.

When there are Premier League games right after international breaks, teams often have trouble getting ready because their schedules were messed up for two weeks before the games.

Last month, Manchester United started off slowly at Southampton. Andre Onana’s save on a spot kick was just what ignited them. They got their second and most recent Premier League win of the season thirty minutes later when Alejandro Garnacho scored the third goal. When Brentford played Manchester City, they got off to a rough start.

Yoane Wissa shut down the Etihad Stadium in just 22 seconds. In the end, though, Erling Haaland scored two goals to cap Pep Guardiola’s star-studded team’s comeback, just like they did in their previous home game against Kieran McKenna’s newly promoted Ipswich Town.

Even though they lost, Brentford didn’t give up. They did it again a week later, with Bryan Mbuemo getting a goal a second after Wissa’s in their next away game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The tricky forward took a little longer—38 seconds—to score the first goal in their next game against West Ham, even though they lost.

While they were back in west London in late September, Brentford picked up a point that time, and the team got off to a similar fast start this month. When Brentford played Wolves, Nathan Collins scored with 75 seconds left in the game, giving them a chance to win that they had been trying to get.

At Old Trafford, the Bees haven’t won since 1937. Scott McTominay scored two goals in extra time just before the international break in October of last year to make sure that didn’t change. As Thomas Frank’s team has been taking the lead early lately, United can’t afford to fall behind again when they play Brentford in their eighth league game this season.

Last year at that point, United had also lost to Brighton and Tottenham, and they didn’t have much faith. Ten Hag’s players need to remember what happened the last time Brentford played at Old Trafford. They’ve been reminded several times in the last month how dangerous their opponents are, especially in the first few minutes of Premier League games.
