Basketball
The next two weeks will be slow for Kentucky basketball.
The next three games for Kentucky basketball are on December 14, 21, and 31. This is a very different stretch of the schedule. There are 10 days between the Ohio State game and the home game against Brown during this time. If there isn’t a bowl game to break up the holiday break, this break might feel like forever to fans. The timing, on the other hand, is perfect for the well-known “Camp Cal” custom. Will Mark Pope do something similar this year?
“Camp Cal” is the name of the practice-heavy period of time that John Calipari used to improve his team by focusing on basics, team dynamics, and making important changes. Calipari is no longer in charge, but Mark Pope, the new head coach, will try to make the most of this time off by using it to improve his team’s play. The team will try to figure out why they are moving the way they are and accept their movement if he gets his way.
In the CBS Sports Classic on December 21, the Wildcats play Ohio State, a tough team. This game will test their focus and growth after the break after beating Louisville. The Buckeyes, who are a strong Big Ten team, will be a great example for Kentucky’s growth. Then, on December 31, the Wildcats will play Brown to end the year. This game could give them a chance to improve their play before they start SEC play, which will be tough.
It seems like only last week that the Cats came back to beat the Zags. That must make you feel a little better. For fans, the long break makes them feel a lot of different things. The break gives players time to improve, but fans don’t have much to look forward to. Since there isn’t a football bowl game in December, excitement turns to hoops and the transfer portal.
What changes do you think this year’s Camp Cal time will bring? The potential is great because Kentucky scores 91 points per game on average, which is the best in the country. Fans can only hope that the Wildcats are sharper and more ready for the difficulties that lie ahead when they come back from the holidays.
