It was possible for our Spanish sister station CiclismoAlDía to be at the Vuelta a Espana 2025 launch this Thursday. No one is not interested in the route of this season’s version. After the first stages in Italy, the race will focus on the northern peninsular. It will all come together in Madrid, with stage 20 at the Bola del Mundo in Navacerrada and the victory ride through the city’s streets.

The sprinters will have almost no chances to win the Vuelta. Almost all of it will be focused on the mountains and, by extension, on guys in overall terms. If you look at the Spanish rivals, Enric Mas is most likely to win his match against Tadej Pogacar. Movistar Team boss Eusebio Unzué points out a key part of the route that will help the Movistar Team star, even though the task will be tough.

As the 90th Vuelta a España celebrations begin, “there is a clear mountain air and two mythical sanctuaries such as the Angliru and, on the penultimate day of the race, the Bola del Mundo.” This is what the manager of the Movistar Ream says on the networks of the Spanish team itself.

With famous finishes in Pal, Cerler, Valdezcaray, or La Farrapona, Unzué says, “There’s no doubt that it will be a great Vuelta a España that will please the climbers.” He then talks about what Mas could do to keep up with Pogacar.

“The time trials are not going to be decisive, and we will also have room for possible sprints,” says Unzué. Enric Mas has never been a good time trial rider, but Pogacar has always been the best. If the Vuelta a España had been important for the overall, the boss of the Movistar Team would not have a chance to beat the star rider for the UAE Team Emirates.

Three-day races called the Vuelta a España 2025

The following will be the two time trials that will be part of the next Vuelta:

Stage 5 is a 20-kilometer time trial for a team in Figueres. It’s going to be pretty flat.

Stage 18 is a 26-kilometer time trial for one person in Valladolid. It’s totally flat, which could make Mas and Pogacar different.

Though, they won’t likely be very big.

At the end, Eusebio Unzué says this about the whole route: “It is very interesting to make La Vuelta more well-known in other countries, with the start in Italy, the route going through part of the mythical French Alps, the return to Andorra, and northern Spain as well.” A less difficult version than the 2024 one, which will give many riders choices.
