“The first half would have been a better time for it to have occurred.” – Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp speaks up and strongly put evidence of truth behind controversial drop-ball decision against Darwin Nunez’s goal in Nottingham Forest win

Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, thinks that the officials acted “consistently” when it came to the questionable drop-ball call that led to Darwin Nunez’s goal against Nottingham Forest.

The Reds beat Manchester City 1-0 at the City Ground to take a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings. It had been 13 league games since Liverpool had won on the Tricky Trees’ grass.

There was a chance that Liverpool would only get one point from Nottinghamshire, but Nunez’s clever header from Alexis Mac Allister’s cross into the bottom corner after 99 minutes made the away fans go crazy.

That was Nunez’s goal, which was Liverpool’s newest winning goal in the Premier League and the 10th newest in the history of the tournament. But Nottingham Forest was furious when the game was over because of a questionable call by referee Paul Tierney.

When a cross was sent into the Liverpool box, Ibrahima Konate fell to the ground with what looked like a head injury. Callum Hudson-Odoi picked up the lost ball outside the area and took a few touches before Tierney blew his whistle.

FA and IFAB rules say that the defensive team can only drop the ball if it was in the penalty box or was last touched in that area before play stopped. If it wasn’t, the drop-ball goes to the team whose player touched it most recently.

According to the rules of the game, the call should have gone Forest’s way since Hudson-Odoi got the ball back before play was stopped. However, Liverpool got the call and quickly went up the other end of the field to break Forest’s hearts.

In the end, there were some unpleasant scenes where people from Tricky Trees argued with Tierney, who booked Felipe, sent off first-team coach Steven Reid, and was reportedly being chased in the tunnel by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

When asked about the event in the press conference after the game, Klopp said that he didn’t see any reason to bring it up. He also brought up a similar call earlier in the game, which he said showed that Tierney was consistent as an official.

“It happened the same way in the first half, right?” The only difference was that it was backwards, right? What do you think about that? “Because it happened that way in the first half, I thought it would happen that way again,” Klopp said.

“I would have asked a question too if it hadn’t happened in the first half.” I think that’s the rule now, though. I’m not sure for sure because it happened twice and was dealt with the same way both times.

“That’s it, and I don’t know how many passes we had to make to get there and score the goal. So I don’t really see the point of the arguments.” But, of course, I completely understand the joy, anger, and other feelings of people in Nottingham.

“They fight for everything and I understand that, but I think with the particular situation where it was twice the same then I would say that’s consistent.”

People also asked Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo what he thought about the decision, but the Portuguese manager wouldn’t say anything because his team was unfairly denied a point on their own field.

Liverpool’s lead will be cut back to one point if Manchester City beats Manchester United on Sunday. They will then be away to Sparta Prague on Thursday for the first game of the last 16 in the Europa League.
