Manchester United
The fact that Erik ten Hag was fired from Man United says a lot about the next boss.
Ineos is dealing with a big problem when it comes to Erik ten Hag for Manchester United.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, they are having the worst start to a Premier League season ever, and things don’t look like they will get better any time soon. They finished eighth last season, which was their worst finish since the 1989–90 season, and are now 14th in the Premier League table after seven games.
Unfortunately, Ten Hag’s job at Old Trafford doesn’t seem to be changing. It looked like the Dutchman might be in trouble after last Tuesday’s long meeting of club leaders in London, but no official news has been made.
Furthermore, the outcomes of a recent Manchester Evening News poll show the reason why there has not been a change of boss yet. Though over 12,000 readers chose Thomas Tuchel and Zinedine Zidane as the best candidates to replace Ten Hag, 16% of those who voted chose “none of the above.”
This is why it looks like it’s so hard for Ineos to find a candidate. The choices they have made don’t make them feel confident in their ability to do well in one of the biggest and toughest jobs in sports.
United didn’t have many choices when Ineos thought about making a change after the FA Cup final in the summer. And that hasn’t changed since there isn’t a standout option right now.
The two choices that came in first and second in the MEN poll both have problems. Tuchel has led teams in England before, but his time with Bayern Munich in Germany wasn’t a huge success.
While Zidane has won a lot of awards, he has never been a manager outside of Real Madrid and doesn’t speak English very well. Many people have also said that his dream job is to take over as manager of France after Didier Deschamps goes, which could happen as soon as the 2026 World Cup.
It’s not clear if United will replace Ten Hag before or during the November international break. This is a typically tough time for managers who are under a lot of pressure. But they will have to figure out what to do next.
