The Advocate Report: LSU’s 31-Foot Tiger, Mardi Gras Mike, Travels To Omaha, Roars Into College World Series Tailgate!

LSU baseball fans are known for their passion, and now they have a larger-than-life symbol to rally behind at the College World Series. Mardi Gras Mike, a dazzling 31-foot tiger float, has arrived in Omaha, turning heads and igniting Tiger pride ahead of LSU’s opening game against Arkansas.

Custom-built by New Orleans’ famed Kern Studios, the float features a roaring, light-up Mike the Tiger, complete with LED animations and a sound system blasting LSU’s fight song. The massive structure—13.5 feet tall and weighing over 2,000 pounds—was trucked in from Baton Rouge to serve as the centerpiece of LSU’s tailgate festivities outside Charles Schwab Field.

“We wanted something that screams Louisiana,” said Barry Kern, CEO of Kern Studios. “When you see Mardi Gras Mike, you know LSU is in town.”

Fans gathered around the float Friday, snapping photos and cheering as the tiger’s eyes glowed purple and gold. The display has quickly become a must-see attraction, even drawing attention from rival fans.

LSU’s creative tailgate setup reflects the program’s unique culture as the Tigers chase their second national title in three years. The team opens play Saturday night against Arkansas, and if early fan energy is any indication, Omaha will feel like a home game for LSU.

“This is next-level,” said longtime fan David LeBlanc. Only LSU would bring Mardi Gras to the College World Series.”

Mardi Gras Mike will remain in Omaha throughout LSU’s stay, win or lose. But if the Tigers keep winning, this tiger might just roar all the way to a championship.
