Tadej Pogačar wins the shorter Beking Monaco charity criterium by himself.
Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates), who was wearing his new world champion’s jersey, won the shorter Beking charity criterium in Monaco on Sunday by himself. Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) came in second, and Michael Matthews (Jayco AlUla) came in third.
“I love Beking, and I’m always glad to be a part of it every year.” Wet weather notwithstanding, the race was still enjoyable. Because we don’t race in Monaco very often, I’m really happy to have won here. “It’s always a unique experience,” Pogačar said in a press release released after the race.
Unfortunately, bad weather cut the professional criterium down to just 20 laps. However, Matteo Trentin, who used to ride with Pogačar, said that didn’t change the spirit of the charity event.
“The weather really put us to the test this year, but my coworkers and the sponsors didn’t leave us alone.” The help they gave us is greatly appreciated. Trentin said, “We chose to cut down on the number of laps but not on the show.”
“This morning, we all got together and agreed that the race should go ahead.” It was amazing; the mood will stay with you forever. It happened again. Feeling good.”
The fourth annual charity event took place on a track along the coast of Monaco. There was a pro-am charity race with 15 teams made up of pros, champions, and amateurs. The race took place on the same track as the pro criterium later that same day. Kids could ride with the pros, and there were other fun things for them to do.
The Beking Association, a non-profit organisation that was created in 2023, wants to raise money to put on activities and events that will help sports, education, green transportation, and environmental protection become more famous. The money raised is then given to other foundations and groups whose goals and values are similar to their own.
“I want to thank Matteo Trentin and the rest of the team for continuing to put together this event for such a good cause.” Pogačar said, “It’s inspiring to see so many people out in the rain to show their support and help get the word out.”
This event has grown every year, and it’s great to see so many kids take part. For the sport’s future, for long-term success, and for the ideals that Beking stands for, this is very important. A rise in the number of people riding bikes is another good sign that things are going in the right way.
