Summer League Spotlight: Tuomas Lisalo to Lead the Charge in 2025

During the 2025 NBA Summer League season in Las Vegas, Tuomas Iisalo, coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, made the announcement on June 27.

Iisalo discussed the “diligent” process of selecting his coaching staff in his first interview with the media since being elected head coach on May 2.

While the head coach’s heavy involvement during summer league is not typical, he stressed that it might help keep the staff on the same page.

My decision to coach summer league is also based on our desire to have a staff that shares our vision for the game of basketball,” Iisalo explained. “We can use it as a test run or ramp up for the coaching staff and also to invest in these young guys.” The Grizzlies traded with the Portland Trail Blazers on June 25 to acquire Washington State guard Cedric Coward for the eleventh overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

I The Grizzlies started the draft with the sixteenth overall pick.

Memphis traded with the Golden State Warriors for guard Jahmai Mashack and drafted West Virginia guard Javon Small with the 48th overall pick.

The Houston Rockets were the initial owners of that selection.

After suffering a shoulder injury last season, Coward may or may not be able to play in summer league. Once the transaction is finalized, we will know Mashack’s status, but Small is prepared to play.

Coward is not certain to participate in summer league as he recovers from a shoulder injury he suffered last season.

Small is ready to play, and Mashack’s status will be known when the trade is finalized.

The Memphis Grizzlies will face the Boston Celtics in their summer league opener in Las Vegas on July 11.
