Sources say that Chelsea and Manchester United are “eager” to sign amazing young players before their competitors.
A 17-year-old Sunderland player named Chris Rigg has been lighting up the Championship, and both Chelsea and Manchester United are “eager” to sign him.
Representatives from both Premier League giants told CaughtOffside that they have been closely watching the attacking midfielder’s progress. Scouts were at the Black Cats’ recent games against Leeds United, Hull City, and Luton Town.
Chelsea and Manchester United both want Chris Rigg.
Others are also interested in the bright teenager, including Brighton, Arsenal, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. It will be hard for them to sign him.
Others have praised Rigg’s technical skills, game vision, and ability to keep control of the ball even when opponents are putting a lot of pressure on him. Rigg’s efforts for Sunderland have consistently been impressive.
The best clubs have always been interested in him because of his ability, and it now looks like he’ll make the jump to the English Premier League.
CaughtOffside has learned that the present leaders of the Championship have put a £25m–£30m price tag on the player. It is clear that they don’t want to lose one of their up-and-coming stars.
It’s clear that the high price is meant to turn away possible suitors. However, Rigg’s skills don’t seem to be limited at the moment, so the price might be seen as a bargain in the future.
It’s now up to the young player from Hebburn, who has scored three goals in 11 Championship games this season (transfermarkt), to keep the Black Cats at the top of the English second division.
