Small but Mighty: Javon Small Joins Grizzlies With Two-Way Deal

The Grizzlies have made a deal involving the first of their two second-round selection choices from June’s NBA draft, despite having already signed top pick Cedric Coward.

The Grizzlies selected Javon Small with the 48th overall choice in last month’s draft, and the organization has announced that it has signed a two-way contract with him.

The 6-foot-1 guard was nominated to the first team All-Big XII after leading West Virginia to a runner-up finish last season. He averaged nearly 19 points, 4 rebounds, and multiple assists.

We will only get one season of Marvin Bagley, though.

After signing a one-year agreement with the Washington Wizards in 2018, the second overall pick from Duke agreed to play for them last season before being traded to the Grizzlies with Marcus Smart.

With the Beale Street Blue, Bagley played in just 12 games, averaging four points and two boards per contest.

Guard Javon Small, selected 48th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2025 NBA Draft, has been signed to a two-way contract, as revealed today by the organization.

As per the team’s policy, details of the agreement were kept confidential. Starting in all 32 games as a senior at West Virginia, Small (6-1, 190) finished with 18.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per 36 minutes played.

He finished the 2024–25 season with second-team All-Big 12 honors in scoring and third-team assists.

Before spending his junior year at Oklahoma State, the 22-year-old from Indiana played for two seasons at East Carolina.

He was chosen 2023-24 All-Big 12 Honorable Mention. From the charity stripe, he hit 87.1% of the time while at the university, including 88.0% in his final season.
