Hoops to Books: Kyrie Irving Trades Court for Classroom, Pursues Degree
In a surprise move, NBA star Kyrie Irving is hitting the books! The talented point guard has announced plans to return to school and earn his degree.
From dominating on the court to acing in the classroom, Irving’s new focus is on education.
What inspired this change? Is Irving’s love for learning the real deal?
This week, Dallas Mavericks player Kyrie Irving talked about some of his plans for the future. One of them may surprise a lot of people.
Irving hurt his Achilles tendon badly in early March during a game against the Sacramento Kings. He will miss the whole season because of this injury.
This was a surprise to many when Irving said on one of his Twitch shows that he wants to go back to college. “I’ll be back in school soon, bro. I need to get my degree.” I want to be a part of a lot of the bigger talks.
I want to do more than just read my papers. I want to help other people too. “I want to be able to give you good advice that comes from being educated as well as having lived,” he said.
Kyrie Irving went to Duke University to study, but he only stayed for one year, from 2010 to 2011.
He then entered the NBA Draft and was picked first by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played for the Cavaliers for six years before moving on to the Boston Celtics in 2017.
After two years with the Celtics, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019 and played for them for four years.
He went to the Dallas Mavericks in 2023 and still plays for them now.
