Chris Paul, Al Horford, and Russell Westbrook are among the top unrestricted free agents in the NBA, and most of the important free agents have already inked contracts.
Both trades and signings have been going on recently; the Denver Nuggets have retooled their roster twice since Monday afternoon.
The Memphis Grizzlies were among the most active teams in the first round of free agency, signing Ty Jerome, a guard from the Cleveland Cavaliers, and re-signing homegrown players to ensure their future with the organisation.
After leaving Cleveland, Jerome, who was nominated for Sixth Man of the Year, faced the music and revealed the hard reality.
The ugly truth about Jerome’s decision to leave Cleveland was exposed in a post to his Instagram story. “Cleveland, this past year will always hold a special place in my heart,” said he.
“Although I was never presented with the option of returning nor did last season end how I wanted to, I will never forget all that this year brought.”
After the Cavaliers made a deal to acquire Lonzo Ball, it makes logical that Cleveland didn’t even offer him despite his breakout season, in which he averaged 12.5 points on 64.3% TS.
The Grizzlies paid a terrific price for Jerome—$28 million over three years—despite his obvious defensive limitations.
When it comes down to it, the winner of this move will be determined by how both Ball and Jerome play on their new teams.
Ball could very well begin next season as the starter with Darius Garland hurt, while Jerome is more than likely set to be the team’s sixth man in Memphis.
