Chance Hymas, a rider for Honda HRC Progressive, suffered a damaged anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee after an incident occurred late in Moto 2 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship round held last weekend at High Point Raceway.
Surgery at Nashville, Tennessee’s Vanderbilt University Medical Centre is set to take place on Tuesday, June 24.
Hymas, who started the day in second place in the 250-class moto, hurt his knee after catching his right foot in a turn; he finished the race in third place, good enough for fourth place overall; he is now third in the points standings.
A complete ACL tear, a small MCL sprain, and a small meniscus contusion were all confirmed by a scan on June 16.
Despite having his left ACL surgically repaired twice, this is Hymas’ first injury to his right ACL.
With a heartfelt expression, Hymas expressed his disappointment in a video he shared on Instagram.
Attempting to digest it has been challenging for me over the past few days.
However, I am now anticipating fixing this and making a great return next year.
After I cure this at Vanderbilt next week, I’ll go to California to see Doc G, whose real name is H. Rey Gubernick, and finally get well.
I want to express my gratitude once more for everyone’s well wishes.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we will get beyond this. I’m not going to let this deter me because I’ve done this before.
Hymas will sit out the rest of the 2025 season due to an injury, but he’ll be right back for 2026.
The exact timing of his return is unknown at this time.
Brandon Wilson, Manager of Racing and Advertising for American Honda, revealed that when they observed Chance in pain during the High Point race, they understood it was a major injury. Chance is known for his toughness.
His 1-1 sweep at the Thunder Valley National a few weeks ago was a strong display of his ability, so we are devastated to hear of the injury.
But there is some good news: Chance has been here before and knows just what to do.
With our unwavering backing, he will overcome this challenge and emerge even more formidable.
Prior to their return to action at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts on Saturday, June 28, Honda HRC Progressive will enjoy a weekend of rest.
Following this, Minear may compete in numerous Pro Motocross races before the Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross from Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in late July, when he hopes to win multiple national championships, according to the statement.
